work life balance

We work almost every single day of our lives. Anywhere from five or six days a week, and sometimes even seven goes into the work we do at our office or business.

You could say that working becomes second nature when you reach a certain age.

Given that most people will start working at a job or business eventually, it is no surprise that some may have problems balancing their work and life.

This is common and perhaps to be expected, given the degree of pressure that may sometimes exist at the workplace.

But at the same time, just because there are work pressures is no reason to let it interfere with the rest of your life. And indeed, some people understand this idea at face value but have a hard time implementing it in their day to day lives.

This makes it very important that everyone learns more about work-life balance. To understand more about work-life balance, let’s look at the work itself.

Type of the work

If you are running a business or have a job, you’ll have commitments every single day. You will be required to maintain workflow and meet deadlines, almost on a regular basis.

These things can make you feel somewhat connected to your work, as it gives you a sense of purpose every day. Even if you don’t like the job too much, you will still like the idea of having something to do every day.

And it is a combination of commitment and purpose that can take over your life if you aren’t careful. Sometimes, it will go to the extent of becoming your life and leaving you with very little time to do anything else.

When people see how this whole thing works out, they start to realise that it is impossible to live life by just working.

They realise that is just plain insanity to keep working all the way until the end. But then again, they still are confused about how to approach the subject.

And that’s what it all comes down to, about work-life balance.

Too many people are today getting engrossed in their work. They no longer spend their time on the things that matter. Instead, they end up dedicate all of their waking hours to their job or business.

Before proceeding further, it is important to clarify one thing about the subject of the article. It is not about devaluing the nature of work, or telling you that you should stop working in life.

finding value in your life

On the contrary, it is about explaining to you the importance of finding value in your life, rather than just your work alone. Life was meant to be more than just your job or business. It was expected to be like an adventure to be lived and enjoyed.

Which brings us to the question of how do you go about doing this?

How do you spend your life in a way, that is not overtly dedicated to working alone, but instead the whole package?

How do you find work-life balance in life?

The answers to this question aren’t apparent if you think about it. There are too many variables that are influencing the final answer. As a result of this, you could say that there is no specific answer to these questions.

For example, it is not possible to find the right answer to this ‘work-life’ dilemma, if a guy is enjoying his life. Can you give the same advice to two people, if one enjoys his job while the other one actively hates it? When you look at it from this perspective, you will realise that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to find work-life balance.

At the same time, however, there is one principle that will help out with work-life balance.

It is, in fact, a relatively simple principle, which you can apply to every aspect of your life as well.

What is this principle?

Time Management

Yes.

Time management is one principle that you can use when it comes to figuring out the work-life balance. It is only when you learn to manage your time, that you will be able to handle not just your work, but your life as well.

time management

You see, time is necessarily a common denominator for everything that you do in life. Everything you do in life requires your time, to one degree or another.

So while time management will not help you to figure out how to manage your work-life activities, it will help you to schedule them suitably. In this way, you will be able to make the most out of your limited time, while at the same time not sacrificing some aspect of your daily work.

Scheduling

The way to go about it is simple. Just schedule a fixed period, within which you are to complete a task. Once you have created this deadline, work hard to ensure that you meet these deadlines. Only by meeting these deadlines will you be able to make the best use your time. And only with the best use of your time, will you be able to achieve a certain degree of work-life balance. While this may not be perfect, it is the closest thing you have to a workable framework, for managing your business, without compromising on your life.

Also to note here is that once you are old and look back on your days, you don’t want to have the regret that you never did anything other than your work. You will want to have memories of the other things that you did, such as climbing mountains, travelling to exotic places, meeting fantastic people and what not. Make this something you look forward to every day if you want to achieve work-life balance.

As a whole, know that work is not everything in life. There is more to life than work. If you ignore this aspect about life, you are going to waste away your whole life on working away at your job or business.

Unless that is what you want in life, start planning out your time now and stick to the deadlines. You will be happy that you did in the long run.

It is only if you live by this principle that you will be able to achieve work-life balance, as well as everything else in between.

Good Luck!
